Pushing myself outside

As I said in my previous post, I'm trying to push the way I use shape and form in my work. So here are some plein air pastels where I attempted to let go of what I was seeing and tried to paint what the place felt like. At the same time I was trying to find ways to simplify and push the forms. This was much more difficult then I expected, it was also more fun then I expected. I had to fight my own artistic habits every step of the way.

Enjoy, and I encourage any critiques.

Brilliant stuff Noah! I can definitely see you trying to push the shapes, and the compositions really help that too I think :)
Were these done with soft or hard pastel?

That first one has great motion in it... feels kind of like a stormy or windy day.

I like the one with the shadow on the slope, with the people, too... it gets the drop in the ground without really describing it..?

I agree with Emma, the first one is really dynamic and has that huricane/tornado feel to.

I am really enjoying the pastel plein airs with the very stylized shapes.....inspiring
