It has been far to long since I last posted, for that I apologies. Last week however I was on vacation and did tons of new pastels at Salmon Lake in the Sierras. Here is a small sampling I hope you enjoy.

Woah, Noah. I don't even understand the top one. These are phenomenal.
I have a new appreciation for these as I've been doing some pastels of my own recently, with little success.
Great stuff.
The top one is a study of the water in the lake, moving from a reflection of the sky in the distance to the translucency of the shallows and the way that effects light and color.
Sorry if it's a bit confusing, it was very difficult to dissect the reflection and refraction of light and color.

I stumbled across your blog yesterday and I'm so glad I did. Your work has really inspired me to go out and observe colour from life. I had a rather unsccessful attempt at painting out doors the other week, I think pastels might be the way to go!

It seem most people like the first one and of course I spent the least amount of time on that and I got lucky. I'll try and post some more pastels today or tomorrow.

Hey Noah. Very cool pastels once again! I think the first one is so popular because you seem to have achieved a very difficult effect. An effect that's particularly difficult with pastels.
With your good observation and rendering skills, you've managed to truly capture the dynamics of the water. Both its physical properties and the light.
It's funny that you thought it was confusing. You were probably too intimate with the piece. If you don't look at it for a while and come back to it, I think you'll see you got it spot-on! It's your best pastel yet!
I love the 2nd and 5th ones too.
